Safehouse
To minimize the spread of flu in the community, Safehouse has been canceled for 2009.
All remaining Week of Halloween events will still occur at their planned times.
As a precautionary measure in preventing the spread of the flu virus, Michigan Tech's Safehouse has been canceled.
Hosted annually by the Inter-Residence Hall Council (IRHC), Safehouse provides supervised trick-or-treating in the residence halls for local youth.
According to Travis Pierce, director of housing and residential life, the decision to cancel the event was made collaboratively between University administrators and IRHC student representatives.
"It's a preventative measure," said Pierce. "With local schools reporting increased numbers of students with flu-like symptoms, we want to do what we can to limit exposure and keep people safe and healthy."
The event was scheduled for October 31. It will resume as normal again next year. All remaining Halloween-week student events will occur as planned.
