Inter-Residence Hall Council

What is IRHC?

IRHC stands for the Inter-Residence Hall Council, and is the main programming and governmental body of the Residence Halls. We coordinate many of the fun things that residents do each year: Safehouse, Penny Wars, Frisbockey, Cocoa Shack, Room Decorating Competition, and dozens more. Most importantly, however, we represent the voice of students in the halls. IRHC is the main contact between the housing administration and the residential body. Our main purpose is to represent the residents in everything we do.

How can my student get involved with IRHC?

There are many ways in which students can get more involved within their Residence Hall community. IRHC offers many positions and open memberships for students to develop their leadership and communication skills. Meetings are open to the public, and inquiring students are always more than welcome.

What types of programming does IRHC do?

IRHC offers exceptional programs that offer something for almost everyone. Our main focus is on creating a friendly community within the Residence Halls that promotes personal and academic success. We provide many fun events that require team work and help to build friendships within the hall community. These events also give students a chance to step away from books and class momentarily, and relax in a fun and safe environment. Other programs that we do promote community service and environmental awareness. We coordinate the residence hall recycling program, and run several charity fundraisers each year. Last year alone we raised over $1500 for St. Jude's Children Hospital during our event known as Penny Wars. IRHC also periodically offers small scholarships and awards to hardworking students. For more information on the programs we are currently offering, please expand the "Programs" tab to your left, and browse the links.

What should my student do if he/she has a problem with the halls?

Students that are looking to see something changed with their Residence Hall, or with Residence Hall policy should send their concern to irhc@mtu.edu, contact us by phone at 906-523-2553, or visit us during our office hours (which can be found under Council >> Officers, on the menu to your left). From there, we will work to see what we can do, and do our best to solve the problem as soon as possible. Some concerns that IRHC has addressed in the past include the Smoking Policy and Bike Storage.
